Exhibition at Künstlerhaus Vienna

The group exhibition DRAFT at the Künstlerhaus Factory is dedicated to forms of expression of conception in architecture using the example of 13 selected positions. 13 individually filled Plexiglas boxes form a space-consuming installation. Translucent and partially reflective, the ensemble embodies the fleetingness of conception, which only becomes built reality in the course of transformation.
The design process always begins with an idea. We sketch initial considerations in the form of quick models or drawings. They are an expression of thoughts and visions that resemble initial ignitions and often mark the beginning of a project development process that lasts for years. They determine the form and conception of the built reality. Only a few lines define the shape of a building. Complex patterns show urban tension fields and analyse the general conditions of a building site.

When the content of a task becomes emotionally charged, it can be discharged in a drawing. This creative act is very quick. The strokes follow the inner idea of a form, a space, land on the paper, they freeze the process for the moment. It is definitely about speed, as if there is no time to reflect on what lands on the paper. It’s about immediacy, the spontaneous version of an idea. Ideally, it is the direct realisation of a spatial idea. The ground plan is the section – is the space. The drawing is three-dimensional, as if one were looking sequentially through the building. Elevation and floor plan result in the capture of all dimensions.
