Exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Rome
Parallel to the Architecture Biennale 2023 in Venice, the European Cultural Centre (ECC) organised exhibitions at several locations under the title TIME SPACE EXISTENCE. For the second time, Künstlerhaus Wien and its architecture section were among the international institutions invited to take part.
The presentation can now be seen at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Rome until 30 April 2024. Under the title LONGING FOR FUTURE, it is dedicated to current burning issues of sustainability and socially relevant models for the future.
Six architects and Künstlerhaus members are taking part: Andrea Graser, Thomas Hoppe, Mladen Jadrić, Tanja Prušnik, Sne Veselinović, Josef Weichenberger and Leo Fellinger.

FRANCIS
metamorphosis of a building
The city as a source of raw materials: With the conversion of Francis in Rome, Josef Weichenberger and Leo Fellinger demonstrate the opportunities for urban development and the environment that lie in the sustainable transformation of existing buildings.
In times of scarcity of raw materials, steel and concrete are seen as grey gold whose lasting value enables a second life. The decision to preserve what already exists, to dismantle the building and add an extra storey has a significant impact on the project’s ecological balance sheet, as a large proportion of the so-called grey emissions are bound up in the steel and concrete supporting structure. This means that large amounts of CO2 can be saved.
